Earlier this morning GM interim CEO and Chairman Ed Whitacre has hosted press conference at the GM Renaissance Center to provide business updates. During the conference, he has announced that, on request of the GM's Board, he is now staying permanently in the Chairman & CEO positions and that the search for a new CEO for GM has thusly been called off.
In early December Whitacre took over the CEO position after the Board of Directors asked for then CEO Fritz Henderson's resignation after being dissatisfied with the level of change he was implementing.
Whitacre is the former CEO of AT&T, where he was a life-long employee that worked through various positions. It has been speculated that new GM Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddel will be a likely successor to Whitacre.
